How to Perform a Calf Stretch Gastrocnemius and Soleus Stretching with Strap
The calf is a powerful muscle complex, and they need to be stretched! The calf muscle group is made up of the Gastrocnemius and Solus Muscles, and both lead into the Achilles tendon and insert on the calcaneus (heel bone).
The Gastrocnemius is the larger of the two, and the more superficial. It also crosses the knee joint and the Soleus does not, so they must be stretched differently.
Since the Soleus does not cross the knee joint, it must be stretched with the knee bent, whereas the Gastrocnemius must be stretched with the knee straight.
