Covid-19 Recovery Program
COVID-19 is associated with a type of viral pneumonia that can cause long-term damage to the tiny air sacs (alveoli) in the lungs. The resulting scar tissue can lead to long-term challenges to breathing. In addition to the effects directly on the lungs, generalized weakness and deconditioning can become a challenging obstacle to bounce back from.
Peak expiratory flow (PEF) is measured in liters per minute. Normal adult peak flow scores range between around 400 and 700 liters per minute. This can be evaluated at with a physical therapist at Equilibrium, and we can develop a program to improve your PEF and consistently measure your progress with Spirometry.
After recovery from covid-19 you may experience some of the following lasting effects:
- Decreased Lung Capacity
- Shortness of Breath
- Decreased Blood Oxygen Saturation
- Deconditioning
- Decreased Endurance
- Generalized Fatigue
Here are some of the techniques we utilize for our pulmonary rehab program:
- Inspiratory/Expiratory Respiratory Training Exercises
- Breathing Techniques
- Progressive Exercising Programs
- Blood Oxygen Saturation Monitoring
- Energy Conservation / Task Pacing
